President's Message
Although the calendar says its April... it feels like June! The heat is here and the AC is already on! Just like the weather is heating up, so too is our Membership committee! At our April meeting two new members will be initiated. Please welcome Bernadette and Vicki! Their sponsors, Barb S. and Jennifer, will share a bio in our May newsletter, so look for it next month!
We have a great day planned for Saturday, April 18th at the Jones & Cabacoy Veterans Care Center. The garden committee has been working so hard to entice the senses! They ask for you to come out on Saturday with your garden gloves, tools, and energy! Just coming out to support them and see the progress would be great!! The address is to the right >>>>>>
It's also that time of year when it's time to pay our dues. Remember dues are due NO LATER THAN May 31 (without incurring a late fee). You can pay your dues now in April. Bring a check to our April meeting on the 20th and give to Susan C. Dues can also be paid by credit card - incurring a 5% fee - by emailing Susan C. She'll generate an invoice that will be emailed to you. You enter your credit card info and confirm the amount to pay... and Voila! It's done. No mail, no envelope - easy peasy! Please help Susan by paying your dues on time so you are not hounded by her, me, or other members of the board! : ). As a reminder, dues are $100.
Our annual retreat is just around the corner. We'll work on our list of ideas for service projects, as well as discuss some ways and means ideas. As has become our habit at the retreat, we will continue to enjoy our RED CUP RAFFLE! If you have small items with which you are ready to part, consider donating them so others and enjoy and value them as you have!
We continue with our Book Drive - bring gently used children's books to our April meeting. They will be delivered to REACH! Also in April (for May), consider donating a package of individual of snacks for the teachers at Green Run Elementary School. Joanne created an Amazon wishlist (click here) to make your life easier! And in May, we will be supporting the Union Mission to help with their linen supply.
And don't forget... April is our Birthday! Happy Birthday Altrusa AND Happy Birthday Tidewater!! Check out the 6 Quick Facts about Altrusa!
We continue to work hard to be leaders in making a better community! Together we can do a lot!
Thank you!

April Accent
Greetings Altrusans,
Happy Spring! I hope this message finds you all doing well and enjoying the changes in the weather. One minute, it’s hot and the next minute I am looking for a sweater! That’s Virginia in Spring…if you don’t like the weather-just wait 5 minutes!
This has been an exciting last few weeks! My third grandson has been born! He arrived on April 3rd at 11:31pm! At 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and 21 inches long, he is the biggest one yet! My family and I are blessed and thank you for allowing me to share this joy with you all!
On April 7, 2026, we celebrate World Health Day, a special time to come together and think about what it means to live happy, healthy lives. This year’s United Nations theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” reminds us of the importance of working together to protect each other and all of nature to secure a place for future generations. Please see the link below for more information: https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-health-day/2026/key-messages
As Altrusans, we know that health is about so much more than doctor visits—it’s about connections. It’s about families spending time together, neighbors supporting one another, and communities coming together with care and kindness.
Some of the healthiest moments are also the simplest. Sharing a story at bedtime, visiting the library, or reading a favorite book with a child can bring comfort, spark imagination, and create lasting bonds. Reading not only helps us learn—it helps us slow down, relax, and connect with each other in meaningful ways.
As we recognize World Health Day, let’s celebrate the little things that make a big difference: strong families, caring communities, and the joy of reading together. These are the moments that help build a healthier, happier world for us all.
Please have a wonderful month of April, plant your flowers, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
All the Best,
Tracey
