President's Message
Welcome to our new club year! Each of us has a responsibility to be a part of our planning and execution of activities to help us in our shared goal - service to our community. I hope this club year finds all our members participate in our activities so our relationships with each other grow and our impact on our community is felt by many. If you have not attended a service project, committee meeting, or business meeting in a while, please add the date to your calendar and be with us! We miss you! ❤️
Many members met on Saturday, June 7th for our annual retreat. We discussed many ideas for this club year for both service and ways and means. Our Service Committee and Ways and Means Committee will meet to finalize the projects/fundraisers and present to the club for approval. We plan to approve both committee recommendations at our July meeting (July Social/Add an Altrusan).
It will be a great year working together ... leading to a better community!

At our June 2025 Board Meeting, the board recommends sending the HER Shelter a $60 donation to make a purchase from their Amazon wish list of needed items for their packing list.

Annual Retreat
Please review the notes/ideas from the annual retreat. This is the information the Service Committee and Ways and Means Committee will use to determine their plans for this club year.
June Program
--Scholarship recipients will visit with us to share their appreciation and a little about their future goals.
--Membership presentation discussion. Please view the Membership/Leadership recording given at the May 2025 District Two Conference. We will discuss ideas from the presentation and sign a commitment form.
June Business
--If not already done so, please sign up for committee membership. If you'll attend the June meeting, which we hope you do, you can sign up then. If you'll not be with us, please sign up using this link. Here is the list of who has signed up so far.
--In July we will participate in the Lemonaid Stand to support CHKD. Barbara S. has done this for several years and we hope to coninue this year with even more funding for CHKD. At the June meeting, we will ask members to be 'online' supporters - to join the Altrusa team and share information with friends (face to face and online) to increase donations. Sign up to pour lemonaid at the Altrusa table on July 17th. Location - TBD.
--There are several committees that need to be developed:
--A planning committee for the Area III Fall Workshop that we will host October 4th at Jo-Kell.
--A pre-planning Bazaar committee to research/develop new possibilities for our annual bazaar.
For each committee, we will need a chair to determine meeting dates, communicate meeting information, and inform the club of progress/support needed.
July Social / August Picnic
--Sign up to bring side dishes or desserts for our July Social and August Picnic.
--Our July Social will be held at Barbara S.'s home on July 12. She will provide the burgers/dogs, we will supply the side dishes/desserts.
--Our August Picnic will be held on August 18th. Location is TBD.

IMG_4234.mp4President Shari Gomez did a GREAT job leading our 2025-26 Kickoff Retreat on Saturday, June 7th at JoKell!
June enjoyed a family visit with three out of four of her siblings here for the week. Marilyn recently moved to Atlantic Shores but her younger brother, Bill, is from Southern California and Richard lives near Raleigh. Lots of fun sharing family stories.

Altrusa International Literacy Challenge One Book at a Time, Part II
President Linda is continuing Immediate Past President Kathy book challenge and we want you to be a part of it. President Linda firmly believe that literacy is the number one focus for Altrusa and we want to continue to enhance that commitment. Our ultimate goal is to enhance the lives of others ONE BOOK AT A TIME! The challenge is for Altrusans to distribute one million books and/or devote 500,000 literacy service hours to our communities during the 2023-2025 biennium. So how can you participate?
Develop a signature literacy project (or expand on an existing one) that will continue to grow and develop into the future. Large and small clubs alike can participate in this challenge.
2. Assign a record keeper to keep track of the number of books you distribute AND/OR the number of service hours you spend (for example reading to children, the elderly, participating in a book exchange … something that works for you, your club and your community).
3. Carry the project over through the next club year.
4. Send your numbers (for both years) to the International Service Committee before
June 1, 2025. The easiest way to record this is to record each time you club donates books so you don’t forget any!
5. Sit back and relish in the fact that you are making a difference …. ONE BOOK AT A TIME.
Remember the end goal is to enhance the lives of others. And the simple gift of a book to a child who has never had one can help eradicate illiteracy and give these children a chance to succeed in life. Will you accept the challenge and join our movement? We all know that Altrusans R.O.C.K. and what better want to REALIZE OPPORTUNITY, CREATE KINDNESS than to create intentional acts of kindess by donating books. As Altrusans we can make a difference! We can change lives – sometimes the book you donate is the only one a child can call their own! Let’s help others develop a passion for reading that will last a lifetime!
