President's Message
Well, here we are again! We've had some great sunny days with warm weather, and today (March 12) we see snow! Of course it didn't stick, but it was snow, nonetheless! That's life in Tidewater... and although the weather may be unpredictable, our support for our community is quite the opposite! We do many things for our community, of which we should be proud! Together we make a difference every time we think about new ways we can make someone else's life better. Our ideas turn into actions that, we hope, greatly impacts someone's life.
We have many things still to achieve this club year... from our book drive, donating items to the Union Mission, to providing treats for teachers to show our appreciation for all they do! Here are a few things we have coming up:
Remember that in the next meetings, we have a lot of business to conduct, so your attendance is meaningful. This club is YOUR club - your voice matters! We will be determining a dates for the annual retreat, voting on Delegates/Alternates to represent us at the District Two Conference, vote on the slate for board, initiate a new club member, install our new board. Our club year ends in May, which isn't too far way!
I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meetings! If you can't come, please send me an email letting me know how you are so I can share with the club. If we haven't seen you in a while, we miss you and wonder about how you are.
Thank you all for your continued support of our service activites - because it's all about service!
Sincerely,
Shari
Interested in being a Delegate or Alternate at the upcoming District Two Conference?
If you are interested in being a Delegate or Alternate at the District Two Conference at the end of April, we will be voting at the March meeting. If you will not be at this meeting, please let Shari know so the club can know your intentions.
Remember, as a representative for the club, it is part of that responsibility for each Delegate and Alternate to provide a written report to be published in our newsletter so all members can benefit from the information brought back to the club.

March Accent
Greetings Altrusans,
I hope this message finds you all doing well and enjoying the warmer weather!
Each year on March 8th, the world comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day, one of the official International Days recognized by the United Nations and Altrusa International. The 2026 theme, “Give to Gain,” highlights a powerful idea: when we invest our time, encouragement, and support in others, everyone grows stronger. By sharing our talents, mentoring one another, and working together, we create opportunities that benefit individuals, families, and communities.

This message beautifully reflects the spirit of Altrusa International of Tidewater. Our club is built on friendship, service, and the belief that when women support one another, wonderful things happen. Whether we are volunteering, supporting local programs, or simply encouraging each other, our members demonstrate the strength that comes from working together.
A special part of our mission is promoting literacy and the joy of reading. By helping children and families discover the power of books, we open doors to learning, confidence, and lifelong opportunity. Our book drive is an amazing opportunity and I know for certain that we can reach our goal of 200 + books!
Please have a wonderful month of March and looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
All the Best,
Tracey

Teacher Appreciation Week at GRES! April Meeting Only
We will continue our tradition to show appreciation for the TEACHERS at GRES (Green Run Elementary School) by providing fruit and snacks for them to enjoy during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Altrusa Tidewater's Holiday Social Dinner, February 21
It was a Holiday Dinner in February with a Valentine Theme. Thanks to Pam, June’s neighbor, and Frances, longtime Altrusa member, the house and tables were decorated with everything Valentine. Jennifer ‘s Rock, Paper, Scissor game with Mardi Gras beads provided an easy way to meet and mingle. Nuoi, our longtime special friend, even won collecting the most beads. Her grandson wasn’t so lucky. Thanks to all the potluck dishes provided by Altrusa members, food was plentiful and oh so good- especially the carrot cakes. Thanks to everyone for a casual delightful time of just being together.
Ellen Walks the Runway
Celebrating another year! Ellen, far right in this photo , walked the runway and modeled some amaing garments on February 27th,
at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, for her friend and well-known artist in the Tidewater area, Meryl Ann Butler. Ms. Butler has created 30 garments over 30 years and also won First in Show this year. Look at those colors!!
February Speaker
Thank you, Haley!
Our Program speaker for February was Haley Dore, who is an Intern with Operation Smile which is a global nonprofit that is active in 40 countries. Operation Smile organizes surgeries for children and adults with cleft lip, cleft palate and other minor surgeries involving ear, nose, throat. They are also researching causes and prevalence of cleft palate. Haley shared the ways our club can volunteer, including packing kits for patients and sewing surgical gowns for patients.
