President's Message
Summer is almost over... before you know it, it will be September!! School starts soon in many of our Tidewater cities and that is the true signal of the end of summer!!
In July we had our Lemonaid Stand and enjoyed some comradarie. We need to work on finding a location that has a lot of foot traffic to increase donations and spread the word about the wonderful things our Altrusa club does in our community.
Several of us attended the International Convention and enjoyed what Quebec had to offer! The weather was beautiful and we were able to see many of the tourist landmarks. I'm not sure we were too impressed with poutine, but we did try it! Convention was informative and we learned more about Altrusa while witnessing the change of leadership. Our September newsletter will include written reports of workshops by those of us that attended. Please be on the look out for those to see what your representatives brought back to you.
Our next service activity will be multi-dimensional! The yard sale to benefit Mirror of Hope's sewing courses will also include a membership drive AND the Lemonaid Stand to support CHKD. Please be sure to look around your home for items to add to the treasures for sale. Look for more information as we get closer to the September date for how to deliver items to Jennifer's home.
We have our annual August Picnic on Monday, August 18th. Please try to be at the church by 5:45pm so we can begin promptly at 6pm. Be sure to check the sign-up sheet for a dish.
During the June meeting, we briefly discussed membership and leadership by watching the video from Dr. Cotton, a member of District One. She ended her presentation with a Action Commitment. Take a look at it and make your commitment. Have you met your commitment yet?
Sincerely,
Shari

Our yearly Club Social, hosted Barbara S. on July 12th, took the place of our regular monthly meeting.
Reinforcing our dedication to literacy, in the opening activity, five members read a short story taken from a list of stories from an NPR (National Public Radio) list of short stories . After each story, we discussed our impressions of the story. After the last story, we choose one story to be our favorite. The setting, opening activity, food, conversations and singing "Happy Birthday" to Shari, were each thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Thank you, Barbara S., and all who attended.
The Treasurer's Report will be added to the NL soon. An updated NL will be sent to everyone when it's ready.
The report will be formatted differently for August. At the September meeting, Susan will explain how it works and how we benefit from this new format.
This budget will be voted on at the September meeting. Please review prior to the meeting. Thank you :)
