President's Message
It's hard to believe that our club year ends this month! When we were young that minute hand took its time going around the clock... but now it seems as if it's on sprinting around the clock... it goes so fast! Next month we'll be having our annual retreat and thinking of how we can continue to make our communities better!
Because it's the end of our club year, there are a few things everyone must do:
--Pay your dues! All dues needs to be paid to Susan C. no later than May 31 to ensure your membership does not hit any snags ... meaning late fees! You can 1. bring a check to the meeting (this is the best option because we love to see everyone at meetings, or 2. mail the check to her (although the mail isn't always reliable nowadays!, or 3. contact her to pay via credit card for a 5% fee.
--Turn in your service hours by clicking the link below (the Service image) to turn in your hours. I need them NO LATER than May 30th for the annual club report for International.
--Turn in any receipts for reimbursements at Monday's meeting to Susan so she can close out this club year's books. She will not accept any requests for reimbursements after May 30th.
Monday we have a lot to do... business as well as the installation of the 2026-27 Board.
Remember our annual retreat is June 13th at JoKells. We will begin at 9am, with a 30 min. social, and then get to work!
Please keep in mind that in all we do, we do together. Our club includes everyone and we need everyone to lead to a better community. By working together... each of us... we will make the work light and the service meaningful!
I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
Sincerely,
Shari

May Accent
Greetings Altrusans,
I hope this message finds you all doing very well, enjoying the springtime weather, and getting ready for summer!
On May 15, we proudly join communities around the world in celebrating the International Day of Families—a special time to recognize the importance of families in all their forms and the vital role they play in building strong, caring communities.
The 2026 theme, “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing,” reminds us that not all families have the same opportunities, and these differences can affect children as they grow and learn. It encourages us to come together in support of one another and to invest in caring, family-centered ways that help every child feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.
At Altrusa of Tidewater, we know that service begins at home and grows outward. Families are often where we first learn the joy of helping others—whether it’s sharing a book, lending a hand, or offering a kind word. These small acts build the foundation for a lifetime of community service.
Our love of reading is another powerful way families connect. Reading together not only strengthens bonds but also sparks curiosity, empathy, and understanding. A shared story can inspire meaningful conversations and encourage young readers to imagine how they, too, can make a difference in the world.
Together, we are building stronger families—and a stronger community.
