In exactly two weeks, conference will begin.
Joanne, Ellen and the committee have worked really hard and it’s going to be amazing and I’m so proud of all of us.
Please start collecting your service hours for April 2022 to March 31, 2023, and submit on the Service Hours form (see below). I will be submitting this and other information for the 2022-23 Club Annual Report.
Altrusa’s birthday was April 11th and we’re 106 years old. Let’s plan a party for our birthday and to celebrate our hard work for conference in May!
I look forward to seeing you at our Monday, April 17th meeting. If you cannot attend, please let me know.
See you Monday night!

Greeting Altrusans!
I hope this message finds you all doing very well. I am pleased to say “Spring is here”! It is a wonder to be seen when the cherry blossom trees bloom, daffodils and tulips peek out from under our flower beds, and the pollen is everywhere! I know the pollen serves a vital purpose to our environment, but my nose did not get the memo! Honestly, a little yellow on the cars and a runny nose are small prices to pay for all the Spring beauty we get to enjoy.
April is a BIG month for us! Our conference is just days away and our summer convention is just a few months from now. It is a busy time to be an Altrusan. When our lives get busy, oftentimes we neglect our own, personal health. Stress can do a number on our immune system and we must take extra care of ourselves on a daily basis. Plenty of rest, a clean diet, and exercise are must-dos. I will remind myself to take my own advice!
Altrusa supports several United Nations International Days; April 7th is recognized as World Health Day. The theme for this year is Health For All. I couldn’t agree more and please see the link for additional information: https://www.who.int/news-room/events/detail/2023/04/07/default-calendar/world-health-day-2023-health-for-all
Please have a wonderful Spring and thank you for allowing me to have a moment with you, every month, while you read our newsletter! It is my pleasure and hope to see you all soon.
All the Best,
Tracey

Upcoming Service Activities/Opportunities
Green Run Readers
Reading to Green Run kindergarteners will continue through the end of the school year. Club volunteers are needed every Friday from 11:45 to 12:40. Please sign up to help at our April meeting or contact Joanne.
Planting help
Friday, April 21 the students are planning on planting radishes in the garden and the teachers need our help. The beds are tilled and ready to plant so our duties are mostly supervisory. Please sign up at the meeting to help or contact Joanne.
Teacher appreciation
Teacher appreciation is the second weekend in May. We will be providing baskets of apples and bananas for the teachers to enjoy as well as some snacks. We are asking members to please bring packages of individual snacks to our April meeting. We will be delivering the goodies on May 8th. Let’s show these hard-working teachers how much they are appreciated!
Sincerely,
Joanne and June
Joanne and Robyn had another successful reading session at GRES on March 31st.
Yard Sale Fund Raiser
Leading to a better community as an international organization, our board supports joining in on a neighborhood yard sale on Saturday May 20, 2023 at Jennifer’s home in Chesapeake to benefit World Central Kitchen.
World Central Kitchen provides meals for families in need, lately in Turkey and in Ukraine in times of disaster.
Bring your excess usable household items to sell or make a cash donation.
The Scholarship Committee has been hard at work after receiving scholarship applications from nine (9) highly qualified students. There was $6000 budgeted for the scholarships this year, after receiving only a couple of applications in the last couple of years. The committee agreed to offer all of the applicants scholarships.
Emails will be sent to the applicants congratulating/notifying them of their awards and inviting them to join us at our June meeting.
At the March meeting, the following slate was voted on and approved for our board for the next club year:
President: Sherral Nelson
First Vice President: Kathy Dalby
Second Vice President: Barbara Speight
Treasurer: Susan Corey
Recording Secretaries: Shari Gomez/ Ellen Barta
Corresponding Secretary: Joanne Baines
Directors:

2023-25: Cathy Malley
Nominating Committee:
Shari Gomez, Chair
Ellen Barta

Our Conference date will soon be upon us! Everyone has been working very hard to ensure its success. We have great things planned and we are all sure to enjoy a great event.
On Saturday night we will be installing Linda Dorr to her biennium as our District Governor. Put on your party clothes and let’s help celebrate the occasion.
Be sure and sign up with Lisa to bring some goodies for breakfast and the evening social.
Thank you everyone for working so hard on this event and helping to make it the best conference ever!
Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
Your service committee chairs,
Joanne and Ellen
Look Who's Coming to Breakfast!
Whether you're attending the District Conference in April or not, we hope you'll help us be GREAT Tidewater hosts for the weekend. We're looking for contributions of breakfast items and afternoon/evening snacks to serve as we host two continental breakfasts and two evening socials over the weekend. We expect up to 50 people each time. Yikes! 😮 Now you know why we're coming to you for help. The items may be homemade, bakery-made, or store-bought. We're suggesting these, or something you like better:
Breakfast Goodies - something to grab & go, like Cinnamon rolls, muffins, or quick breads
Afternoon Snacks - chips with dip or salsa, assorted munchies, cookies, cakes, sweets
To sign up, text or call Lisa.
She'll contact you to confirm and give you her address, if needed.
Drop-offs at her house on April 25 & 26 or on Thursday, April 27th, bring them to the hotel.
Our thanks to the members at our last meeting who have already offered to help.
Help us be the Hosts with the Most for the 67th Annual District Two Conference.
Reminder! Club 21 dues must to be paid online. Use this link to update your personal Club 21 dues to support International Foundation.

From June: Beautiful site right at the harbor. We were able to tour some of the facility. Very unique inside as well! Fun area with waterfront cafes.
From June: John and I had a fun time checking out the Barrier Reef. Seemed kind of bleached in this area.
Ellen spent nearly two weeks of April near Durango Colorado with her brother Dave. This waterfall is what happens when 19 feet of snow melts in your backyard!
Barbara S. was serious about her weaving at the 4 day workshop called NCBA in Raleigh, NC. The second picture in the pink shirt shows the baskets, wine totes and stool she has finished this past month.
Sherral and Ken visited their daughter Kendra and grandkids in Florida in March. They attended their granddaughter Ava's Cheering competition.
They also traveled to Silver Spring, Maryland this week to attend their granddaughter Codi's Lacrosse game with Notre Dame and they won 15-8!
