Hi everyone!

It's hard to believe that next Monday is our annual picnic.  Please be sure that you RSVP for the picnic and let us know what you're bringing!  Click here to open the list.  When the document opens, find your name and add Yes + number that will be attending (including yourself)  or No.  If you're attending, add what dish you're planning to bring.  This RSVP list helps us determine how much chicken to purchase.  Also, remember to bring some school supplies that will go to the GRES teachers to help them start the year right! 🙂

At the beginning of September I'll be sending an email to members to vote on the activities/projects for which you each plan to participate.  This vote will let us know what projects we will have enough members participate for a successful activity.  We need ALL our members to help make the wonderful things we do a success for our community.  You matter... your voice matters... so be on the look out for this email and please let us know how we can count on you!  Hopefully every member will vote and we'll have that information at the September meeting so we can move forward with our service projects/activities.

Governor Brenda asked me last month if the Tidewater club would be willing to host the 2029 District Two Conference.  One main reason that I hope we decide to do this is because, if things go as planned, I would be installed at the District Two Governor at that conference.  Having as many of our members present as possible would mean so much to me.  However, hosting a conference isn't easy, but since we last held one in Virginia Beach, several things have changed.  Many responsibilities that were placed on the host club are now completed at the district level, such as registration.  Please think about this request and be ready to vote at our September meeting.

We have a few fund raisers coming up in September - our fall flower sale and the first tea.  In order to support our service projects/activities, our coffers must increase.  We need funds to pay many different things so our service projects are successful.  Please be on the look out for infomation for both.  

Thank you for all you do!  September is almost here, so please add our club meetings to your calendar - third Monday of each month, 6pm, at Jo-Kell in Chesapeake.  If you need a ride or need to zoom, reach out and we'll help get what you need!!

There were no board actions.

We sorted and labeled 1500 books for REACH & had FUN!!

With guidance and a smooth system developed by REACH, we had the best time catching up with each other and talking about the various books as we sorted and labeled them for storage at REACH. We may do this a couple more times this year. Keep you eyes open for the dates and join us!

Dedication of the Jones & Cabacoy Veterans Care Center Garden

The dedication took place on July 20th, hosted by our Gardening Committee with Barb S. as speaker. Present along with members of the committee, were a few patients, staff members,  and Altrusa members. If you haven't seen this garden and all the amazing elements that make it interesting as well as beautiful, take a ride over to the Veterans Center. It's easily worth the ride. We thank each person involved with this project for their time and work. This project is continuing, so if you're interested in helping out, please contact Barbara S. 

July was a very eventful month but highlighting a few.
** Blanch

I attended the ribbon cutting of the Cornland School in the Dismal swamp, also a sight of the Underground Railroad with Shannon Hardwick. We later visited Barbara and Don at their lovely home. Dudley and I congratulated our cousin Mayor Taylor who was re-elected for a second term in Crisfield, Maryland. I am also glad to be a part of the planning, planting and implementing of the Sensory Garden. 

Cathy M. & Susan E. are having an art reception on Saturday, August 15 from 1-3pm at Cogan's Pizza North (4311 Colley Ave, Norfolk).  Come up to the 2nd floor to get some pizza after viewing their art!  You can also see the art anytime in August at The Starving Artist Cafe (diagonally across from Cogan's Pizza North).  Come out and support these two starving artists!!  😂
