St Paul’s Shoe Bank
Many of our club members donated children's books for St. Paul's Shoe Bank. Each child leaves with not only new socks and shoes, but a new or gently used book that they can pick out themselves. The club's generosity helped fill some bare shelves, with a total of 91 books donated. Footwear and fairy tales, a perfect combination! (See picture 1)
The YMCA Anti-Hunger Program
The YMCA Anti-Hunger Program is always looking for dedicated volunteers. Each month, several Altrusans gather on the second Saturday to assist with food distribution in Philipsburg. In February, Robin and Kathy helped distribute food to over 300 families in need. Every week, the Anti-Hunger Program supplies food to Centre County students facing hunger, ensuring they have meals to take home for the weekend. Starting at 7 PM on Tuesday evenings, Altrusans are invited to join Penn State students to pack backpacks for more than 2,000 local students in need.
Ban Dusty Books, Bellefonte Library March 14th
On a slightly chilly and windy day, 10 Altrusan sisters gathered for a day of cleaning, socializing, and having fun making the Centre County Library in Bellefonte sparkle. The day started off by cleaning the Children’s area before their scheduled story time. This was followed by dusting the book stacks, as well as the furniture, and cleaning windows. Many NERF darts were recovered in the process!
The day would not be complete without sharing a meal at the Courthouse Pub (Brother’s Pizza) where we continued with our usual antics. And since the event was held on 3.14, pie was in order. The staff at the library really appreciated our effort at this time as the new director of the Centre County Library & Historical Museum will be visiting the facilities soon. First impressions matter, and we did our part to make it a pleasant one. Thanks to all involved, and to those who were there in spirit even if unable to attend. (See pictures 2 & 3)
Park Forest Day Nursery Easter Egg hunt
Excitement was in the air and eyes of the Park Forest Day Nursery children as they waited for the head bunny to give them the green light to go egg hunting. Each child was directed to collect 8 eggs that were stuffed with stickers and other non-edible treats. When the hunt was over, Phyllis, the head bunny extraordinaire, entertained the children with musical toys and a singalong. Afterwards, each child received a book to take home. The supporting bunnies; Sindy, Allison, Kathy, and Jill agreed that they had as much, if not more fun than the kids. It was an egg-celent event! (See last pictures)
