ALTRUSA MONTGOMERY COUNTY & DAYS FOR GIRLS ROCKVILLE, MD

MOROCCO EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROJECT

In October, Altrusa Montgomery County and Days for Girls Rockville Maryland Chapter joined forces to assist in Days for Girls International’s Morocco Emergency Response Project.  DFG International galvanized its chapters around the country to help people affected by a devastating earthquake that shook the countryside near Marrakesh, Morocco, destroying village homes and roads, killing and injuring thousands.  In this humanitarian effort, DFG and its partners responded to assist the unique needs of women and girls often left out of humanitarian responses – providing much-needed menstrual health kits.

Our club donated three hundred (300) pairs of underwear and three hundred (300) washcloths. Club members Cawana Cornelius, Carol Ubosi, Diana Mustafa and Rosa Romero volunteered to organize and assemble kit materials for shipment, working along with DFG Rockville MD Co-Director, Rhona Arbit, among other DFG volunteers assisting in this effort.

Altrusa Montgomery County will continue to work together with Days for Girls Rockville,  MD Chapter - donating materials and volunteering to organize kits to help women and girls around the world.

Members of the Prince George’s County, MD Club partnered with the University of Maryland University Hospital Domestic Violence Center to provide comfort kits.  These kids will be given to victims to come into the center with children to keep them occupied from everything else that is going on at that moment.

Altrusa club of Fauquier held their dance for special needs adults and we had over 100 attendees. We had a DJ and fed them some delicious homemade treats and Chick-fil-A.

Richmond, VA

Check out these amazing pictures from our recent project!

On 11/21, the Altrusa Club of Richmond met from 3-5 pm. We gathered at one of the brand new youth apartments for Housing Families First. While some of us put together Thanksgiving bags and delivered them, the rest helped make the beds and wash and put away dishes and pans.

The condo looked absolutely stunning and I am beyond thrilled to announce that Housing Families First will soon have their first youth family moving in. A huge thank you goes out to everyone for their hard work and generous financial donation to support this new program.
