At the District Two Conference in April, a District Two Service project was introduced.
Let's work together on a common theme to support the disabled veterans in our community.
Each quarter clubs will send in their updates (to include the number of items distributed and pictures) to share throughout the District and to measure our success!
International Service Update:
Governors and District Service Program Chairs have been invited to attend a Zoom meeting on June 22.
Club Service Chairs, please plan to attend a District Two Service meeting, via Zoom, on June 24 at 6:30pm for International Service information.
Shari will email Service Chairs based on information in Group Tally with the Zoom information. This meeting invitation is open to any member. 😉

On Saturday, March 16, several Altrusa club members fulfilled one of our favorite service projects. We flocked to Trish Shallenberger's home, the CEO of A Soldier's Hands, to help fill care packages that her organization sends to our troops overseas. Together, we sorted, stacked, separated, and ribbon-curled the carefully designed packages for our veterans. Ultimately, it was a humbling and satisfying service project to help those who give up so much and put themselves at risk to keep us at home safe.
Six Centre County Altrusans and three friends joined together as Team Altrusa to pick up trash in Bellefonte on April 20. This annual Watershed Cleanup event was sponsored by Clearwater Conservancy which supplied high visibility vests, bags, and gloves. We collected 11 large bags of trash and a car jack. Margo (a friend) was adventurous and scaled a steep hill to get some trash while Jill and others clung to the guard rail and reached what we safely could. The worst spots were a wooded area and a culvert that contained a sleeping bag and beer cans among other things. Jeremi (another friend) alone counted over 200 cigarette butts before he lost count.
H.E.R Baby Shower
On Monday, March 18, Altrusa of Tidewater held a baby shower celebration for the H.E.R. (Help and Emergency Response) Shelter located in Portsmouth, VA. Members donated boxes of gently used baby and toddler clothes, dozens of diapers, pull-ups, wipes, linens, and towels. Kiera Cotti from the H.E.R. Shelter spoke to Altrusa members about the process they use to take in families in need and get them the proper help. The H.E.R. Shelter has a history of helping to care for the most vulnerable in our community and is a beacon of hope to many.
