Why is the material you are using important to your work?
The material I use is important to my work because my concepts are all about human consciousness and perception which can change or alter depending on who is looking. These things are intangible and more ambiguous. I use oil paint because it is very illusionistic. I love how I can manipulate the medium and the feeling I can create with it.
How does the “concept/ content/ technique” framework manifest in your work?
My work always begins with an idea and I develop it in writing first before translating it into the canvas. My paintings have to have the right ambiance or atmosphere that are created by very specific use of color, lighting and painting consistency. This makes me able to capture the audience's attention and to transmit the sensations produced by the concept I'm visually representing. As a result, my pieces are more cohesive and can actually translate the way I want them to.
What is your favorite color? And why?
Blue is my favorite color because I find it very interesting and beautiful. I can find it in the ocean and the sky but also I think I associate this color with more metaphysical, spiritual and esoteric connotations which I find fascinating. Blue brings me calmness and joy.
