Space and Time
Qinhui Lin
Space and Time is a photo collage project inspired by surrealism and pictorialism. Art blurs the boundary between reality and fiction. Art transports us into the realm of dreams to see the world anew. In simplest terms, art is a means to feel as we recognize ourselves in the folds of the work. Art offers the freedom to examine life in a non-linear manner. What occurs when images merge with one another? What chemical reaction did they have?
The project uses two-dimensional images to build a three-dimensional world. The project also contains my cultural background. I was born in China and went to America in 2016. All of the artworks include Chinese and American landscapes, artworks, and sculptures. The unique process of combining and layering a variety of images and fragments of images allows me to have the opportunity to reconstruct the relationship between time and space.
A photographer, as an artist, has the responsibility to not only record the moment of life but also to aim for emotional impact and spiritual contemplation. I invite viewers to participate in a surrealism world and help rethinking the elements surrounding people. The art pieces evoke viewers to find the connection between their inner and outer world.
