Art this year
Starting high school in the middle of a pandemic has been challenging, and specifically doing art in general this year has been a unique challenge. I think this year was a creative year for some and maybe not for others, and for me I like to consider this year as my year of rest —all artists experience blockage sometimes. I have greatly enjoyed doing art this year and experiencing art in a whole new way in high school. I've learned a lot about art history and the rococo period, and I've explored new genres like block printing, wire sculpture, sgrafitto, and art competitions. I have learned to see life interpreted through art differently.
I often struggle with finishing my work, or sometimes I'll go back to something I drew months ago with new techniques I've learned. Because of this, my work can often look unfinished. To be blunt, I don't think my work has improved this year; this year took a lot of energy in different departments of my life that distracted me from my love of art and I wasn't able to work hard enough to improve.
I think the most challenging project was probably the scratchboard piece: it look a lot of time and I had to be very careful not to mess up, ( not to mention the awful sounds it makes). I really enjoyed doing my wire sculpture, it was something new and exciting and a medium I hope to explore further.
I hope to continue to explore my artistic abilities and self expression,. Along with that I want to make sure I don't overwork my passion for art in the future. I've grown with art and love expressing myself through it. I love seeing artists perceptions and ideas through art and other people's interpretations of it, and I hope to contribute to the art world sharing my perspective.
