Yellow Home
watercolor paper, gesso, acrylic
18"24"
This piece was inspired by my childhood home. I consider my home, that I have lived in my whole life almost an extension of my mother and as my inquiry surrounds her and what has raised me I decided to dedicate a portrait to it.
I started with several layers of gesso on watercolor paper, I prefer this over canvas because it has a smoother surface that allows the paint to blend and coat better. I began by just laying down the colors of the sky and the ground, i slowly incorporated details like the horizon like, different variations of grass and colored flora as well as clouds.
I put my house in a field to depict the feelings of disconnection from the outside world, almost a peaceful isolation. I used the actual paint used for my house to paint it's siding.
