I wanted to continue my felting while showcasing another aspect of it. My mother has created an environment where art is cherished and sacred. To illustrate this, I used my old paintings that she had preserved. I also linked this piece to my previous work by incorporating leftover fabric, emphasizing the themes of conservation and the different facets of my Felt Madonna, who represents divine motherhood. This approach highlights the effort and dedication to nurturing my relationship to art my mother has demonstrated throughout my childhood.
For this piece, I felted a section of cashmere with gold and added a touch of red to represent the heart. I selected one of my old paintings, added a doily, and sewed them onto the canvas. Furthermore, I included some buttons and a pendant that my mom had given me.
During SI 9, I realized that I wanted to use the leftover scraps for my next project. The rest came together quite easily. The main idea revolves around viewing art as precious and treasuring the keepsakes that my mother has passed down to me.
