I wanted this piece to be very magical, and detailed, similar to the illustrations I used to see in the books my mom would read to me when I was little. I wanted to show a story and add little details of intrigue, so people feel inclined to study the penwork up close .
I started with freehanding the penwork. This is one of my favorite ways to start a project, to have it so permanent it requires improvisation which I think is a fundamental aspect of creating art. I then went in with watercolor paint to add color and liveliness. I also used while gel pen to add highlights.
This was a fun peice for me to do as it was very creative and I got to use imagination. The statement combines two cliche fairytale sayings, that speaks to the art portion.
