Letters from Gram

I wanted to create an homage to my great grandmother, she has been a light in my mothers light and I cannot tell my mothers' story without her. I used her letters to my mom, they are very personal and directly from her. They show the influence and love she had for my mother.

I started by gluing letters to my piece of paper in different layers. After that was done I painted flowers on and around my collaged canvas.

My mom and I went through a suitcase of keepsakes from her Gram and she selected a few letters for me to use.  My mom told me Grams favorite colors were red and pink and that she loved lily of the valley, lilacs and iris' so I incorporated them using acrylic paint.
