Pattern Paper
Wooden canvas, graphite, school glue, embellished construction paper
12" 18"
For this piece, I wanted to incorporate multiple subjects, including myself, and use colorful construction paper for material synthesis. One of my favorite photos features my mom, my sister, and me. I have it set as my lock screen on my phone, and I wanted to use it in my artwork.
When I was younger, my house was filled with craft supplies. My mom has always encouraged my sister and me to be creative, especially with all the different kinds of construction paper. We often made cards and various designs, and she provided us with many patterns and textures.
I decided to switch up my canvas and chose wood for my graphite drawing based on the reference photo mentioned above. After finishing the drawing, I added a background made up of colorful papers in varying colors and patterns.
Initially, I had planned to use fabric for this project, but since I intended to use fabric for my next project, I opted for paper this time. The drawing section was quite challenging, and while I managed to replicate my photo, I like to think of it as having a stylized touch.
