Future Beach
Wood canvas, oil paints, charcoal
9"12"
Conceiving this piece I wanted to depict a future where care for our planet is taught to the young and passed down generations. I wanted to include the Maine coast as part of this, because it is my home and something special to me I want to protect.
I used oil paint to show a texture and to give my painting a surreal look, and rather than acrylic which would be ironic to use because it's made of plastic.
I started with practice sketching my people on paper. Once I got my desire sketches I transferred them directly onto my red washed canvas using the charcoal technique. I looked for possible references in my camera roll of the beach and even took pictures of the dunes at one of my favorite beaches, Reid State Park. I slowly and tediously build my layers, mixing color and brushstrokes until I got my final piece.
