33 Simple Strategies

Many students struggle with the transition from high school to university life. This is especially true of first-generation college students, who are often unfamiliar with the norms and expectations of academia. College professors usually want to help, but many feel overwhelmed by the prospect of making extra time in their already hectic schedules to meet with these struggling students.

33 Simple Strategies for Faculty , by Lisa M Nunn, is a guidebook filled with practical solutions to this problem. It gives college faculty concrete exercises and tools they can use both inside and outside of the classroom to effectively bolster the academic success and wellbeing of their students.

Meetings - for Book Club Members

Recording from #1 Book Club Zoom Meeting: Thursday, March 11, 2021

  • An outcome of this conversation was the suggestion to have student success information located in a central spot. CODL collected faculty content, videos and links and added them to the student-facing Online & Digital Resources website, that is linked in the STCC Blackboard template. Look for it on the left-hand navigation bar under Student Resources.

Recording from #2 Book Club Zoom Meeting: Thursday, April 1, 2021

  • The Marketing Department created a STCC website directory that includes all links received from the Book Club participants [and more from staff in Student Services].  Book Club participants recommended changing the name to STCC Support for Student Success. CODL also created a space to be linked into Blackboard courses and instructions on how to do this will be communicated to the campus community. The above links will be built into the STCC Blackboard template for the Summer and Fall 2021 courses.
