Hi there,
Thank you for visiting the Performing Arts page again during this time at home.
To begin online learning this term, the activities on the Performing Arts page will be set out a little bit differently, with all students provided with the same task of which can be simplified for the younger year levels or extended for the older levels. (The levels may be separated as the term progresses) This means, for now, that all students will have the opportunity to complete these tasks in a way that is suitable for your own level and of which is appropriate to your own interests. If you are a Middle or Senior student, you may take the ideas from these activities as far as you like and add in your own creative touch. If you want to add an instrument or some music technology programming to the tasks... it's up to you. The sky is the limit! I can't wait to see what you all come up with.
A SPA Choir video will be added to the weekly tasks this term also. (Scroll below for an exciting announcement)
So, once again, I hope you enjoy making music, singing, dancing and acting at home. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask and I will see you all real soon!
From,
Mrs. Pagonis
*IMPORTANT * STUDENT VIDEO DISCLAIMER FOR PERFORMING ARTS
Throughout this term during online remote learning, I will be calling on students to record themselves singing, dancing or playing some percussion in a video that is recorded at home. Please make sure that you are dressed appropriately and that all videos include a background that is appropriate for everyone to see. All videos that are sent to me always need Mum and Dad's permission and will be sent via the SeeSaw app, so that parents are aware of the content being sent to me for school purposes only. I will assume that any video that is sent has been approved by the parents first and that it is okay to publish these recordings for the purpose of school collaborations or projects during this time at home. If See Saw is not working, you can send a video via email with parental permission.
Thank you kindly, Mrs. Pagonis.
If you would like to attend a special Performing Arts Zoom session during our last week of school, please send me an email saying "I WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND THE PERFORMING ARTS ZOOM" to epagonis@spadoreen.catholic.edu.au. This session will be your Performing Arts task for Week 9, where we will be able to catch up, sing, dance and reflect on the learning from the Performing Arts page during Term Three. The Zoom session is open to ALL year levels from Prep - Year Six. In the meantime, please submit your video for our Whole School Project, as part of your Week 7 & 8 tasks. I hope to see you in the Zoom session! Mrs. Pagonis :)
This brings us to the end of Term Three on the Performing Arts page. This term we have done such an amazing job expressing and explaining how we perceive music and how music can effect our mood. We ended this topic this term by learning the song HAPPY and putting together this fantastic video! Well done to everyone who contributed to this video. I'm so very proud of everyone who has sent me a video or response this term and I can't wait to see you (hopefully) in Term Four!
PS: Make sure you email me if you would like to attend our last Performing Arts class this Friday at 12:30pm. Mrs. Pagonis!
All videos need to be submitted by Friday 11th September to be featured in the project
Hello everyone! Click on the link next to this text to read through the instructions for our next whole school video to the song HAPPY!
I recommend taking time in week 7 to learn the song, sing it to your family and practicing it from start to finish. I have provided the music with lyrics below and then the backing track which you will need to sing along to while listening to this in your headphones for your final video.
In week 8, I would like you to once again, record a video of you singing
Happy. If you would like to also record a short video of you dancing to this, that is great! However, only record your dancing if you have submitted your singing first (As we need as many singers as possible in the video!) You may also play an instrument if you wish.
If you have any questions - please email me on epagonis@spadoreen.catholic.edu.au. If you have problems uploading your video to an email, please upload to your google drive and share it with me from there. I can't wait to put this one together!
First learn the song with this video
Once you are comfortable with the song, practice singing along to this karaoke track, which you will use when you record your video.
This was our last week looking at Mood in music. Thank you to everyone who submitted a video or a written response over the term. After our whole school project, I will be asking you to write a journal reflection about this topic in Week 9. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this video of songs that inspire the students at SPA!
Hello Choristers!
Our next SPA Choir Zoom rehearsal will take place on Friday the 4th of September at 1:30pm. Please send me an email saying "I WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND" if you are a part of the SPA Choir and I will invite you to our session. See you for some singing fun!
From, Mrs Pagonis :)
I hope that for our next project we can include many more students at SPA. I can't wait to try out more songs as a whole school in the future. Well done again everyone!
This week we return to exploring a song that makes you feel a certain mood. This week we will look at a song that makes you feel inspired. Click on my video to hear a little bit more about this activity and a song that makes me feel inspired! Once again, you can send a video to my email address epagonis@spadoreen.catholic.edu.au that showcases you singing, dancing or telling me about this special song of yours.
Do you know how to FLOSS? Click the video above to find out!
Our SPA Choir had a wonderful Zoom rehearsal last Friday and the choristers enjoyed some new vocal warm ups, along with learning more of the song "A life that's good". Click on the lesson this week to keep learning this song and to practice a range of vocal exercises as well.
Our next Zoom rehearsal will be next week. Stay tuned for the date and time!
Part Five - The week we put it all together!
By Mrs. Pagonis
The more videos I receive, the better it will look!
Karaoke / backing track
Click on the video to hear and see the wonderful video responses that I received from the talented students at SPA last week. This week we will take a break from looking at "Mood" and "Perception in the Arts" so that we can focus on the Whole School Project (above) and make sure that everyone sends in a video of themselves singing What a Wonderful World. Next week we will have a new mood to focus on again!
Note: The second last video was sent in by Jagger from the Middles. His name didn't save to the video, so, my apologies Jagger!
Once I have received your email, I will invite you to the Zoom session. Please note, only students who have provided parental permission to be a part of the SPA Choir (Years 2-6) will be invited. I can't wait to see you all next week!
Hello everyone,
Due to the passing of my beloved grandmother this week, I've made the decision to postpone our rehearsal, just to take some time to rest and be there for my family during this challenging period. The SPA Choir Zoom rehearsal scheduled for Friday 14th August will be postponed until next week. The new date will be Friday the 21st of August at 1:30pm. Please send email with interest if you would like to attend.
Thank you for your understanding.
Mrs Pagonis.
Part Four - learning the easy percussion part.
This is the last part to learning our whole school project song. Next week we will begin putting this project together. You can complete this video and then practice singing the song (from last week) with the backing track all by yourself.
As you know by now, music can affect how we feel in all sorts of ways. Part of the reason why we are looking at this in Performing Arts, ties in with the Senior inquiry topic of Perception. The way we feel about different songs is totally because of our own perception, our individual moods and the memories that we have.
This week we will explore music that makes us feel sad. Click on my video above to hear more about this week's task and my sad song.
Line dancing!
Part three - learning the ending of the song and practising from start to finish.
Learning the ending of the song
So you can practice on your own!
This week's mood is nostalgia. Click on the video to hear my song that makes me feel nostalgic. Thank you to those student's who have sent me a response or video about their songs so far. This week I encourage all students to do so. Your video may only be 30 seconds long or 3 minutes long, it is totally up to you and your creativity. Please send your videos to epagonis@spadoreen.catholic.edu.au.
So, who is that in the video? hmmm..
Today's lesson we will be learning some important vocal exercises, as well as learning the chorus of "A life that's good". Enjoy!
Our next rehearsal via Zoom will be on Friday 13th of August at 1:30pm. As we have over 40 students in the choir, it will be amazing if we had more students attend this rehearsal. Congratulations to the four students; Claire, Sienna, Lucia and Levana on attending our first virtual lesson. Click on the video to see how much fun we had!
This week's mood is relaxed. What is a song that makes you feel relaxed or chilled? What about your song makes it sound relaxed? Click on my video to hear more about this task.
Like last week, I would like you to create a video of this song and send it to me via email. You can create a creative video in any way that you like. I would prefer your video to include the music and to hear you singing or see you dancing. If you would like to use Garageband or create a presentation via Imovie that is okay too.
Click on this video to hear and watch some of the awesome video's that I received last week. These students sent in a recording or presentation about a song that makes them feel happy. What talent we have at SPA!!
PSST!... a little birdy told me that next year we might be having another SPATACULAR (Showcase of learning) again. (But, you didn't hear it from me) So, it would be fantastic to see you performing and preparing to sing/dance in front of others again. After all, that is what Performing Arts is all about!
Week two: The Nutbush!
Dance tutorial video
So you can dance until you drop!
Practice making different shapes
Date: Friday 31st of July 2020 Time: 1:30pm
Once I have received your email, I will invite you to the Zoom session. Please note, only students who have provided parental permission to be a part of the SPA Choir (Years 2-6) will be invited. I can't wait to see you all via Zoom so that we can sing, sing, sing!
This week we will begin learning the lyrics to the song "What a Wonderful World". Each week we will learn more of the vocals to this song and then add in a percussion part too. This song will become a fun project for our whole school at SPA and something we can all take part in! Click on the video to find out more and to start learning this beautiful tune.
Just like how we feel different emotions, music has different kinds of moods as well. Music can help us to feel so many different ways and can help us when we are dealing with our own emotions.
Sometimes it is the types of instruments that are playing, the tempo of the music, the words in the song or even the way that the singer is singing the words that can change the mood of the music.
In a time like remote learning, let music into your home and enjoy a variety of songs with all types of moods.
What is a song that makes you feel happy? Click the video above to find out mine!
Record a short video with the name of the song, why it makes you feel happy and what it is about that song in particular that makes it sound happy. (Is it the tempo of the music, the words of the song, the instruments that are playing or even the way the singer sounds?)
Preps and Juniors, you can record yourself singing this song by yourself or with the music. You might even want to just tell me about your song and why it makes you feel happy while the music is playing in the background. It's your choice!
Middles and Seniors, you may like to come up with your own dance routine to your selected song or write a written response. Keep the time of the video to 1 minute maximum and the written response to one paragraph. (PS: If you would like your family to participate in your video also, that is okay too!)
Send your video to Mrs. Pagonis in the Performing Arts section on the SeeSaw app so that I can create a special video called "Our Happy Songs" for everyone to check out next week! If you are sending a written response, it can be sent to my email epagonis@spadoreen.catholic.edu.au.
Remember, it is a requirement that you are participating in the Performing Arts program and I will be asking all students to send me work samples weekly. The See Saw code to access the Performing Arts is at the top of this page.
Every week we will be learning a famous dance.
This week we will be learning a dance that was really popular when I was a primary student... The Macarena!
Sittin' here tonight
By the firelight
It reminds me I already have
More than I should
I don't need fame
No one to know my name
At the end of the day, Lord I pray
I have a life that's good
