This week in Science we were learning about Asteroids. The children had the opportunity to link in what they learnt from Science to come into the kitchen to make Asteroids. Each ingredient used was a representation of the elements that makes up an Asteroid.
This was a great visualisation and hands on experience for the children to understand the elements and what an asteroid is made up of.
The children enjoyed the whole experience and there was definitely a buzz in the air.
Wellbeing Wednesday is a day for YOU. Take the time to be kind to yourself and do activities that make you feel HAPPY.
Cooking for me is a passion that brings me so many feelings. It brings me JOY, COMFORT AND CALM. I feel HAPPY when I am cooking for my family, as after a day of work and school, we all come together and enjoy the prepared meal. I love seeing the faces on my family when they have enjoyed what was cooked for them.
I also LOVE getting in the kitchen experimenting and having fun. Below are some recipes that you can cook in your kitchen at home. Have FUN and most of all ENJOY YOURSELF.
If you have any photos of you cooking in your kitchen at home, please get your mum or dad to email them with permission to: lrigon@spadoreen.catholic.edu.au, so I can put them on the Cooking Blog

This recipe is super fun to make. Watch the chocolate pieces melt and then become your own chocolate bar. I added pretzels, what else can you add to your chocolate? Have some fun and be creative.
ART IN THE KITCHEN
Have some art fun in the kitchen and create your own piece of art using scraps or items from the kitchen. You can use things like, potato, banana, orange and apple peels, shell of avocado, offcuts of fruits and vegetables, seeds, slices of fruit or blueberries for eyes., lettuce leaves. There are so many things in the kitchen that you can use.
Watch the video below of Arcimboldo's portraits using fruits, vegetables, flowers, scraps etc. This will give you an idea of what this looks like.
Draw a picture that you want to create using your scraps or things from your kitchen. You need to do this with a big person ,so you can make sure that what you chose to use in your picture is safe and you are allowed to use it.
What is your picture going to be of? It could be a rainbow, a mountain, the clouds, a person, an animal, favourite cartoon character, a person, the list is endless.
Do not use food that you will not be eating as it is not about wasting food. If you are not going to eat your creation then use food scraps.
Below are some examples
Take a photo of your artwork and send it to: lrigon@spadoreen.catholic.edu.au

SOUPS are an amazing winter warmer and a great way to use up your vegetables instead of throwing them out. A great way to eat your rainbow of vegetables, is to make a pot of Minestrone Soup.
Not only is it the perfect way to warm up on a cold winter's day, but it is high in so many vitamins. The more colourful vegetables you add, the more vitamins it will have!
A BOWL OF GOODNESS!!
This term, we will be exploring all about sustainability and how it relates to the kitchen. Living a sustainable life covers lots of different areas.
In the kitchen it is all about growing our own food, buying local and seasonal produce, support our local farmers, eating free range meat and egg products and reducing our packaging waste. It is about thinking where and how the food we eat is grown and where it comes from. In the kitchen there are many ways in which you can reduce wastage and this is by recycling your scraps. By doing this we then place them in a compost bin, which then can be REUSED for nutrients for our garden.
Always think of other ways that you can use your leftovers, so you do not waste food, which then can end up in the bin. It is all about not wasting food.
For example when cooking a roast chicken there are lots of things that can also be done with the leftovers. The bones can be used to make a chicken stock and with the leftovers you can then make a chicken pie or use the chicken for chicken wraps for your lunch. This is a great way to be sustainable in the kitchen because everything is being used and not wasted.
Above is a great poster showing how we can be sustainable in our everyday lives. Go through the poster with your family and see if there are some changes, that you can put into effect now. You maybe already doing some, which is fantastic.
Remember it is never too late to start to think of the 3 R's:
REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE
