Below was first featured in the 2020 School Year Book.
I first heard about Seng Kang Secondary School’s Direct School Admission (DSA) programme for football. I subsequently attended the DSA trial without any prior experience. Of course, I was not successful. However, I decided to still enrol in the school. I was impressed by the sporting culture, the way students learn in the school, and its numerous achievements. While various CCAs in Seng Kang have attained significant breakthroughs, what caught my attention was the Football CCA. I was impressed by its consistently good performance in the local football community.
When I joined football, I was worried that I would struggle and not fit in. However, my coach was willing to guide anyone who wants to develop himself on the field and in life. I always looked forward to trying out new skills and tactics during CCA sessions, and playing and bonding with my teammates. Everyone comes from different walks of life, and our love for football helps us to bond, have fun and create unforgettable memories together. My coach often emphasises on the importance of discipline. He shared that as long as we work hard and are resolute, we can be successful in life.
Being a Sports Leader has given me opportunities to develop not only my leadership skills, but also my character as well. As a member of the Executive Committee, I have learnt to be more patient when communicating with others. I have also learnt that respect is not to be demanded but must be earned. In addition, I have learnt that enough is never good enough, but as long as we are constantly learning and changing, we can make the best of it. Being a Sports Leader has also taught me how to bring a group of people together to achieve common goals.
Offering the GCE O-Level Exercise & Sports Science (ESS) as one of my subjects taught me how science and mentality can affect one’s sporting performance. The course was definitely so much fun and interesting, and I appreciated the lessons with our ESS teachers.
In 2019, my fellow Executive Committee members and I led the Sports Leaders in organising our school’s annual Sports Fiesta. The event was a huge success and I felt a sense of accomplishment, as my friends and I would never think that we could pull it through.
Another memorable experience was when I was selected to be in the starting line-up for the football team. I had worked very hard and I knew that my efforts had paid off. I would not have been able to achieve this without the strong support of my teammates, teachers and coach.
Finally, an event that I will remember dearly was being awarded the ‘Best in Subject’ award for three different subjects. It made me realise that I have the potential to do great things. I also wish to take this chance to thank my subject teachers and friends for their tremendous support. They have certainly brought out the best in me!
