My two years as an ESS student has been fulfilling and enriching. As a student athlete, I am able to use what I have learnt during lessons on the soccer pitch when I’m playing or getting ready to play. ESS has taught us that sports is not just about being physically fit, but also how much information we can gather and process before executing the movement.
This helps athletes to take into consideration the tiny details that may have a significant impact on the outcome; movement or skill. ESS has also taught me how the human body functions and how I can myself keep fit. Personally, I use what I have learnt during lessons for my football training sessions and I have benefited greatly from doing so. These include my breathing technique and how I pace myself during matches. Everyone is fully engaged during ESS coursework sessions and I really look forward to days which have ESS lessons. The teachers are also very lively and sporting. They not only participate in games with us, but also teach us skills and values during these coursework sessions!
Sadly, my two years as an ESS students is coming to an end, but it was a really enjoyable two years which I learnt plenty from. To the Secondary 2 students who are deciding on selecting a coursework subject next year, come onboard to take ESS and you will benefit greatly and enjoy it!

ESS has taught me a lot, regardless in studies or in sports. With knowledge of ESS, it enables me to have a better understanding of the game. I would like to thank all my ESS teachers who have been teaching and guiding me from these past 2 years.

Through these 2 years of ESS, I’ve learnt more about sports-related content and my level of understanding towards it have heightened. I can apply what I have learnt in ESS to real life situations and it has really benefited me a lot. ESS also gave me a platform to try out new sports while understanding the biomechanical concepts and principles behind it. All in all I’ve really gained a lot through ESS.

O Level Exercise and Sports Science (ESS) is a demanding subject as it requires students to analyse, evaluate and plan for improvement in their respective sports both in writing and during practical coursework sessions.
As champion-minded student athletes, they rose to the challenge by faithfully giving their best during the coursework submission season. They succeeded through by completing their report (known as Development Log), their individual and team practical activity. We saw them progressing to be responsible and resilient youths who were always trying to be a better version of themselves.
Even after the coursework submission in Term 3 Week 3 (August), they did not let their guard down. Instead, they rose to the occasion by achieving a 100% submission for their weekly practice papers, consisting of exam papers from other schools as homework.
For the past 7-8 weeks, they completed a total of 12 Practice Papers (9 Exam Paper and 3 more E-Exam papers) which is equivalent to 960 marks worth of questions! For their commitment in completing their homework as a class on a consistent basis, they were rewarded with revision session through play! They were tested on the various sports science topics through Frisbee and Softball. We hope that they will carry this spirit of excellence as they enter their final phase of their preparations for their O Levels. The PE Dept would like to wish our 1st batch of O Level ESS and all Seng Kang Youths, the very best for the on-going N Level exams and upcoming O Level Exams. We hope all will work hard towards their next breakthrough! Take care. Stay healthy and active!
