In brief :
I currently live just north of Liverpool in Formby, but have lived and worked in many places in the world since leaving High Wycombe.
It was actually Brian Welters rather than his brother who I knew well, as he and I attended West Wycombe Primary and were the only two who went to the Wycombe Tech.
Sadly I do not have any memorabilia to hand from those days as it has simply gone away over the years but I may have some School Reports when I can find them. I noticed my name on one of the School Sports Day schedules as I was quite good at 400 and 800 yards and actually won the race on that schedule.
My family owned the Corn Merchants Business in HW called "Jones and Rivett Ltd" and I joined it from leaving in 1965 and stayed in the Animal Feed Industry all my life.
Despite my age I am a Director involved in a specialist feed business called Feldyfare and we make Avian species feeds www.feldyfare.com.
My life since leaving school has been a great adventure with many tales to tell especially my work in the former Soviet Bloc with DG6 and the UN.
When I look back on those times I now respect the disciplines and culture imposed on me by the likes of Alan Bissett and Henry Panter – great guys but they would not exist in today’s world.
A more detailed history of "My Life After The Tech" :
I now live in Formby near Liverpool after many years of relocation due to career and personal reasons which since leaving school have taken me across the world. Sadly I think the total number of houses moved into and out of total over 30 !!!
My time at school was from 1960 to 1965 and I chose to leave early as my only career desire was to be involved in the Animal Feed Industry and Farming. To kick start this I joined my family business of Jones & Rivett Limited who were one of the two Agricultural Merchants in High Wycombe. After 4 years of just about doing everything I decided to leave for Nottingham (now Nottingham Trent Uni) to study Agricultural Merchanting with Business Studies. Agronomy and Nutrition. I graduated as the Top Student and the world was my oyster with a number of career offers.
In short from the early 70s to the present day I was fortunate enough to work up to the pinnacle of the Industry as a Director of 2 major companies. In that process I worked in the UK and most of Central and Eastern Europe living in Albania, Ukraine and latterly Poland. This work was commercial for UK companies as well as using my Consultancy Business to work for the UN, DG6, World Bank and UK Govt. on various missions relative to the Food Chain. I finished my corporate employment in Poland having helped to start the Dalgety Agra Polska business for Dalgety Plc as Director and Country Manager. On semi retiring I achieved a lifelong ambition of farming and rented a 1000 acre Estate in Poland for a period of time before coming back to the UK.
Whilst back in the UK I was approached by a number of organisations and now since moving to Merseyside am Chairman of LCA who are Liverpool’s largest private Help Charity. More recently with some friends I went back into the animal feed industry as a Director and Partner in Feldyfare Limited www.feldyfare.com a specialist animal feed business so share my time between these two organisations.
I remain a Manchester United Season Ticket Holder and hardly ever miss a game. My interest in football was certainly ignited by Alan Bissett and continued all my life playing at a reasonably high level in the Midland League before work became too intense to risk injury. My other thoughts of school rest with Henry Panter who despite his aloof attitude had a very positive effect on me and my ambitions. One story regarding Harry Ward was the last time he spoke to me on my last day at school when he said he did not want me to leave as it was a waste of talent. Years later when he saw my name in the Bucks Free Press having achieved the Top Student Award at Nottingham he sent me a letter saying ‘Not such a waste of talent’ a comment I have never forgotten but sadly never saw him in person again to say ‘Thanks’.
Great days and even greater memories and would do it all again at a great school such as the Wycombe Tech was.
