Aloof and hard to fathom – strict, and although a small man, he could swing a cane with great aplomb and accuracy – Thankfully for us, most of the time he remained hidden in his large study at the front of the building on the ground floor and which commanded an excellent view of any miscreants returning late from the Rye at end of lunchtime. As well as any boy who was suicidal enough to trespass in the Old Ruins. His study was the last place you ever wanted to be sent to. To give him his due, he would also admonish a teacher if he considered they had not carried out their duty of responsibility or not provided proper care toward a pupil. I know this to be a fact, as I was the beneficiary of his justice, after being forced to continue playing Touch Rugby with a badly broken ankle, during a PT period on the Rye. (Mr Bissett was the recipient of his justice and reprimand - however- I was the ultimate recipient of what was to follow). The resulting three weeks I had off-school, swinging a plaster cast between old wooden crutches had obvious limited enjoyment. What happened to “The Boss” after The Tech was removed from the scene, and why I wonder, did he not go to the JHGS as Head? Perhaps others may be able to enlighten me.

I detested the man with a vengeance. I found his to be arrogant, cruel, dictatorial and self important and not a particularly good teacher. If he did not become head of the JHGS then I would suggest that was to their good fortune
