I had Mr Barlow for Woodwork (along with Mr Clarke). He was a “no-nonsense”, straight to the point teacher, a stickler for accuracy and hard work (especially from you). His manner did not enthuse you to think of him as an “Uncle” type of teacher (like Mr Clarke), but one that clearly demonstrated the requirement for strict obedience at all times.
He knew his craft and forcefully developed any potential you had to emulate his abilities. Not one of my favourite teachers – but obviously a good one nonetheless.
Some of what I said in my comments on Mr Clarke is also applicable to Mr Barlow. Thank you Mr Barlow for what you taught me - as I still use that knowledge to this day.

I found Barlow intimidating until I reached the 3rd Year and then his attitude towards the class changed. Although my hobbies are wood orientated this is in spite of Barlow and mostly because of Tom Clark who taught using tolerance and not by bullying.

I learned a lot from Mr Barlow and his partner Mr. Clark even though I dropped woodwork from my GCE course. I still remember and use the things I learned about how to measure, mark, saw, plane, sand and polish wood, how to sharpen and use a chisel. I think I amused Mr Barlow by the way I used to hunch right over my work to see the far side!!!
