Some of the things I can remember;
Playing football on the Rye every lunchtime in all weather's (almost!). We crossed the main A40 (as it was then) over a small pelican crossing, no problems with traffic stopping!
Going to school in the woodwork hut up the back (top end), on the day after the Man. United’s terrible plane disaster at Munich. Mr Clarke, good old soul, got us together to talk about it - as most of us were in shock and subdued. It helped us fans a lot.
The London Transport bus strike in 1958. Living in Holmer Green, half way to Amersham, the Number 362 bus was my only way to the Tech. So !! - my trusty old bike became my saviour - using some Mecanno pieces that I still had, I built and fixed at the side of the back wheel, a frame to hold my A3 Tech. drawings. I made it waterproof, mission accomplished !! However, I didn't enjoy walking back up the Amersham Hill every afternoon - but I became much fitter!
Doing a GSE exam in the Summer of 1959, on the top floor of the main building, in boiling heat with all the windows open, sweating and sneezing with hay fever!
Cross country running over the Rye or rather being pushed and bullied by Mr W (!) up through the woods, along Daw’s Hill Lane past the USAAF base, and back down the hill. I hated it, to start with, but eventually I wasn't so bad in the end, always finishing in the top five.
