Mr "Cavey" Betteridge History

COMMENTS:

Ivan (Spadger) Sparrow - 1957 to '60

He was my first Form Master in 3A - Seemed a reasonable sort of guy as teachers go – I have no other real impressions of him other than I remember him teaching something about, Picts, Celts, Gauls, and Romans. Like H.G. Wells he was probably way ahead of his time and was really teaching us about the history of the future in Britain – not many true Englishmen in the country to write about then, as it might seem the case, today. History was not one of my favourite subjects then, but since getting older my interest has grown and I can now see the relevance of the subject.

The thing I remember most was Cavey's habit of saying "D'you see?" quite a lot when he had been giving a lesson. Unfortunately he used to pronounce my name as "Pew see" so often when he said "D'you see" I would respond "What sir?" and when he was pouncing on me to say something I ignored it!!!.
