Comment by John Warner - 1961 to '66
I made great use of the place from about 1963 until 1966. In fact I could be found there during the study time allowed between G.C.E. examinations when one was expected to be at home studying! It must have been widely known where I was because Harry sent a message via a classmate that unless I toed the line I could not expect a reference from the school to present to future employers. I thought that I was being so clever holing out in the café. I was brave/daft enough to ignore the order and then had to dodge Harry when attending to take the remaining G.C.E. examinations.
I was emboldened by the fact that I already had an offer of employment and felt safe. Incidentally The Summer term of 1966 was the first term in the new school buildings at the top of Marlow Hill.
As Richard Nash was asking the question regarding the fate of the El Palma to my certain knowledge it was still trading in 1966.
