Some of my memories from my Tech days :
My cousin George Holmes married a girl from the Tech - Margaret (Peggy) Wilson (I think) - over 80 now and living in Norwich. She lived in Penn as did Jean Randall ( now Page) and still living in Penn (79 now). We speak to her regularly. Dorothy Samworth was also a girl there, who’s younger brother Jim was in my year and lived in Beaconsfield too.
Although he wasn’t in my class Terry Pratchett was in my year, and in those days very insignificant and looked upon, as far as I remember, as a bit of a buffoon. Didn’t he do well in the end though !!!
Teacher “Bogey” Bateman also travelled in by the same train - a really nice man. As was “Gonfra” Burton - very unassuming and always pleasant. I fondly remember being in his Printing Club, which we used to attend during our lunch hour. I also remember several other teachers - Mr Stibbens - who could be very unpleasant but was always fine with me. Mr Llewelyn - a French teacher I think and I liked him. Mr Boyd took Art? but can’t remember if he had a nickname. Mr Panther, Maths, quite intimidating and very abrasive - could put the fear of god into us at times. Mr Ward - headmaster - a thoroughly unfriendly and unpleasant man but his deputy Mr Fowles was always charming. Mr Bristow - Chemistry - maybe I’m wrong. Mr Cartledge - Chemistry too? - seem to remember he got himself married while I was there. And Physics - can’t remember the guy’s name but he smoked like a trooper. As for Bissett (note the deliberate exclusion of a title) an absolutely loathsome person in my opinion.
