Demonstrate your cultural competence by creating a Cultural Triangle explaining the relationship between the products, practices, and perspectives of the culture you are investigating. Google Form to CHOOSE YOUR COUNTRY
Select a unique PRODUCT of the target culture to investigate and describe. What do they make or use? (The product can be tangible, such as food, a household item, a toy, clothing, artwork, etc., or intangible, such as literature, music, poetry, a news story, a game, etc.) For your presentation, you should have a prop (real or electronic) such as an object, picture, video, etc.
2. Explain the PRACTICES associated with this product by the target culture. What do they do? Explain who, what, when, where, and how they use the product. (Identify social patterns of behaviors, including actions, use of language, time, location, rites of passage, groups within society, etc.)
3. Reflect on the underlying PERSPECTIVES of the target culture in relationship to the product and/or practices. Make assumptions or hypotheses to interpret the target culture without stereotyping or overgeneralizing. Why is this important to their society? What do they think? (Consider values, attitudes, traditional ideas, religious beliefs, family or gender roles, social taboos, etc.)
