You are to us the son we never had,
Grandson in reality.
And describes why we are so glad
To have you on our family tree.
We remember the great happiness we felt,
When you made your first appearance;
It was much earlier than was planned,
And you needed much assistance.
You were so extremely small,
With one hand you could be covered.
Your tiny frame had a close call
We later on discovered.
In hospital where you had to stay,
Far longer than most others.
I did not ever miss a day
To visit and to smother.
You were such a happy chappie,
Your laugh I did adore.
And when you were out of nappies,
I loved you more and more.
School was not your favourite place,
And you really were quite a clown.
Exams could have been the coup de grace,
Had you not decided to knuckle down.
In adulthood you have made your choice,
To pass on to others what you have learned.
Many youths will hear your voice
And all because you are concerned.
