For those of us now past our best,
Activity has slowed right down;
Now is the time that we can rest
Awareness in all that we abound.
Our daily stroll covers a shorter distance.
Though the time involved is as before;
It now requires some assistance,
To come back to our home’s front door.
And yet with all this deceleration
Time just always seems to fly,
Like an unbalanced life equation
Leaving behind us all gone by.
This was not so when we were young;
So much for us to look forward to.
With feet firmly on life’s ladder’s rung
We could not wait for its debut.
And now we know our futures to be short,
Which makes the present so essential.
For this may be our last resort
To make it consequential.
