How we all do miss her
The Capital is not the same without her.
She was always so hospitable,
To those who shared her table.
Ruth did serve her city well,
On many a council committee.
But still found time for personnel
To join her in sociality.
Through Gerry she joined our Gotlieb family,
And she fitted in quite naturally.
In my early teens I was a guest
At their small and different wedding fest.
Never had I seen a wedding performed,
In what could be said did not conform,
To what in my young life I had observed,
The bride and groom so unreserved.
The marriage produced four lovely offspring,
For whom Ruth did perfect mothering.
And when they all had flown the nest
Ruth did then apply her civic quest.
When she was honoured by council and the crown,
It was agreed by one and all around
That no one was more deserving,
For all she had been serving.
A library will keep her name before us,
And almost seems superfluous.
Her deeds and personality
Will bring her memory to reality
