I love Aotearoa
Land of the long white cloud,
‘tis Maori for New Zealand;
A really special place.
The inhabitants of this Eden
Are better known as Kiwis;
As is our little flightless bird,
Found hiding in its burrow.
We take pride in our surroundings;
The scenery is amazing:
Two islands of much beauty,
One country they combine.
Its footprint on this planet
Is very small indeed;
Not so its many citizens,
Throughout the world well known.
Their name has been emblazoned
In many different fields.
In science, sport and literature
Have many reached their zenith.
Our young at one time left in droves,
Seeking a better future.
It did not take them long to learn
The perks they’d left behind.
Our shores have welcomed tourists
Once word did get around;
Of scenery beyond compare
We willingly did share.
I therefore hope our citizenry
Will appreciate all we have;
And keep it as it’s meant to be
Aesthetic green and clean.
