The bulk of the Structure design has taken place in the CAD model, fit checks, weight estimates, clearance checks, part placement and secondary locking features have been verified in CAD prior to beginning Phase D. If a part exists on the final product, a part has been made for it in CAD. The final CAD BOM shows all parts, locations, quantities (or estimated volumes for adhesives) used. To capture this data in a verifiable manner, extensive assembly drawings have been created for each part, sub-assembly and major assembly, and each modification to the drawings will be captured with an update to each files revision.
The three main challenges for the Structure subsystem have been the deployable systems for the antennas and solar panels, and the foot deployment switch. The two deployable systems have had prototype models created in phase C to prove out the design intent.
