Task Description: Measure the coefficients of static friction for all payload samples to confirm that the sample clamping force is sufficient to prevent lateral movement.
Completion Deadline: 02 August 2019
Team Member: Nathalie, Stephanie
Resources Required: Payload samples, sample friction test apparatus
Verification Activities: NA
Pass Criteria: The static coefficient of friction for each sample is more than 0.05. This is the minimum friction coefficient needed to prevent samples from moving laterally during vibration testing or launch.
The sample friction testing results are summarized in the table below:
The minimum measured static friction coefficient was 0.28 while the maximum was 0.81. The minimum measured static friction coefficient was 5.6 times the minimum required coefficient (0.05) and so it is highly unlikely for samples to move laterally during vibrations.
