Points system

A points system is a useful feature of existing turn-based tactics games, such as Final Liberation, as it allows balances games between sides made up of different types of units. The key is obviously to ensure that every unit type gets a fair set of points. One way to do this is to have the AI repeatedly play games with random army set-ups with the same points. The outcome of these games, plus the outcome of online games between human player or human vs AI, can be used to tweak the points system.

One problem with existing points systems is that points are given to units, which limits the flexibility of users to add new units to the game (I am a particular fan of post-apocalyptic units which are based on bits and pieces of existing units bolted together). If the points are based on the unit's variables, rather than the unit per se, such that a points allocation can be generated based on inputting all variables, this would allow greater flexibility in adding new units.
