Fast travel

My ideal fast travel system would allow players to "bookmark" locations on a tile-based, and hence explorable, map (both town/dungeon level maps and outside maps). The player can then travel between bookmarked locations with two clicks: one to open the list of bookmarks, the second to click on the desired bookmark. This system gives the player the enjoyment of exploring a full world (not just clicking between zones), without the hassle of traversing them over and over again.

To stop the fast travel system breaking events or gameplay, it would not be possible to bookmark in hostile environments. Additionally, a bookmark can become unavailable if the location, or route to it, becomes hostile as a result of an event in the game.

In semi-hostile environments, there should be the possibility of random enemy encounters when the player is doing fast-travel. There should also be the possibility of random encounters of a positive nature, e.g. traders.

Another feature that would complement a fast travel system would be a "fast shop" system: in any town where a player has already explored and met some tradesmen, on entering the town from the outside, the player has a dialogue to fast-shop. The player can then access any shop they've already found via a single click, rather than having to navigate to that shop.

Possible names other than bookmarks: favorite locations; remembered locations; waypoints; location markers
