Vilesteel

Positives

    • Interesting skill system

    • Interesting class system (your class changes over the course of the game in response to the skills you pick)

    • I like the way your attributes improve by small amounts constantly, not just when you level up, and in response to what you're doing (e.g. if using bows a lot, the bow skill improves)

    • Near-perfect fast-travel system:

      • One click whilst in-dungeon to get to the surface

      • Two clicks from a surface area to get to any other surface area (one to open up the map, one to click on the location)

      • The player can have random encounters when doing fast travel

      • The only downside is getting back down into dungeons isn't fast

    • The game provides areas where enemies respawn so the player can choose to grind if they so wish

    • Generous inventory

    • Every enemy leaves a body behind on the battlefield – makes the map look awesome

Negatives

    • Thin and generic plot (too hack'n'slash)

    • All dungeons respawn enemies when the area is left. This is good in that it forces the player to complete the dungeon all in one go, but doesn't really fit well storyline-wise

    • Targetting is a little buggy

    • Frame rate is sometimes poor

    • Takes too long for trees to become transparent – can't see character

    • Slow to access shops as have to enter the shop, then click on the shopkeeper (particularly given that the excellent fast travel system gets the player used to doing things fast)
