TEACHER OF THE YEAR / SUPPORT PERSON OF THE YEAR
Each school year (February or March) the staff will nominate a TOTY and SPOTY.
Teacher of the Year (APyeS) Guidelines and Selection Criteria
Qualifications:
A certified public classroom teacher (Clear and Renewable certificate or Advanced Lead Professional certificate) in public pre-kindergarten through grade 12, including Special education, EIP, physical education, art, music, and media specialist. Counselors, Social Workers, and Speech Pathologists are not eligible. Nominees should spend the majority of their time in an instructional role.
The candidate for Teacher of the Year:
Must remain on faculty for the upcoming school year.
Is a tenured teacher (3 or more years experience) with at least two of those years at the current school.
Is an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled teacher who is planning to continue in active teaching status (at least 50%).
Inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn.
Incorporates the APS 5 and APS Equity Teacher Dispositions within their daily classroom instruction.
Demonstrates a track record of increasing student achievement as evidenced by high student growth or value-added data. (i.e. MAP Growth Data, GMAS
Has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues.
Plays an active and useful role in the community as well as in the school.
Is poised and articulate and possesses the energy to withstand a taxing schedule.
Is willing to be on the board of the PTA for the year of recognition and serve as an alternate on the board of the PTA the year after their service.** (Serving on GoTeam also counts).
The TOTY SHALL NOT SERVE in the role of President, Vice President or Treasurer.
The previous year's TOTY shall serve as the alternate for this year's TOTY
The TOTY is responsible for sharing PTA news and requests with the staff at Staff Meetings and Grade Level Meetings.
Has not been placed on a Professional Development Plan (PDP) within the last three (3) years.
Has no active, pending, or previous investigations with the APS Office of Employee Relations.
Support Person of the Year (SPOTY) Guidelines and Selection Criteria
Qualifications:
Any staff member that is not in a teaching function may be nominated. This includes all Full-time/Part-time custodians, food services employees, school nurses, data clerks, Parent Liaisons, Instructional Coaches, SELTs, speech therapists, campus policemen, paraprofessionals, secretaries, and such. Media Specialists, Social Workers, Counselors, and Psychologists are not eligible. Nominees should spend most of their time in a support role. Supervisory and administrative responsibilities should be of secondary consideration.
The candidate for Support Person of the Year should be:
An exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled person who is planning to continue in an active educational support role.
A support person who inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn.
A support person who has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues.
A support person who plays an active and useful role in the community as well as in the school.
A support person who is poised and articulate.
Incorporates the APS 5 and APS Core Norms within their daily work.
Length of service of 3 or more years in current position.
If applicable, certification and credentials must be current and valid.
Demonstrates high motivation, initiative, integrity, leadership skills, commitment, and exceptional judgment.

Has no active, pending, or previous investigations with the APS Office of Employee Relations.
