Discipline / PBIS

At Kimberly Elementary School we believe that a culture and climate that welcomes all stake-holders is critical to success. Behavior by all stake-holders, including administrators, teachers, school staff, volunteers, parents, and students influence our school environment every day!

The purpose of this behavior support plan is not to create a list of do’s and don’ts, but to provide a framework as to how Kimberly panthers treat others. We want to ensure that everyone knows how Kimberly Elementary School will develop, teach, model, and reinforce behavior expectations for all members of our school community.

Our philosophy surrounding behavior includes the following:

• Social Emotional Learning is the cornerstone of our decisions in how we treat and view ourselves and others
• A successful behavior support plan is proactive by design, therefore, it is critical that:
  • School staff reach consensus on how specific behaviors will be addressed
  • School staff teach, model, re-enforce, and re-teach expected behaviors
• When someone makes a mistake, efforts to make it right should be made
• The goal of discipline should be a change in behavior
• Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Kimberly Elementary School is committed to best practices associated with Social-Emotional Learning and PBIS. These research-based supports have guided Kimberly Elementary School in the development of our plan to support behavior.

Adult Essential Agreements:

1. All students are greeted at the door every morning

2. Positive adult modeling of SEL competencies

3. Positive phone calls home monthly

4. Full staff mentoring program

5. Classroom Meetings (Circle Time) occur daily

6. Community Gatherings occur monthly (Desired behaviors are taught in advance to prevent disruptions to learning.)
