Report cards are issued every nine weeks. Progress Reports/Deficiency Notices are issued at the midpoint of each nine-week period. Teachers should regularly monitor and record student progress in order to substantiate grades at any time. Grades should be updated in Infinite Campus weekly by Sunday night; at least one grade per subject, per week.
The grading scale used is based on the A-B-C-F concept. The scale to be used is as follows: A = 90 – 100; B = 80 – 89; C = 70 – 79; F = Below 70. Any teacher who has a student with a failing grade must contact the parent at least two times following the midterm. It is imperative that parents be made aware of their child’s progress before the child fails a class, and that contact must be documented in Infinite Campus (Contact Log). A child’s failure in class is partially the responsibility of the teacher. SEE MASTERY-BASED ASSESSMENT MODEL Keep in mind the law of averages when deciding on zeros…consistency within grade levels is essential here as well. (Lowest grade = 50% if attempted, 50% if no attempt made). (See Appendix 29); Policy IHA-R(1): Grading Systems - Grading Expectations
Progress Report / Deficiency Notice
Regular progress reports must be issued to parents by the progress report dates listed on the school calendar each grading period. For students to receive a failing grade in a course, a progress report must have been issued by the notice date or as soon as the student's grade fell below 75 after the notice date. A progress report is considered a notice of deficiency. Teachers must also complete the Student Failure Checklist and submit it to Admin upon request.
In instances where students earned failing grades without appropriate teacher documentation of progress reports and parent contact, students have one semester to complete make-up work to correct the failing grade. After one semester, student grade changes may not be made.
