Assessing Upon Enrollment
Purpose:
The information gathered on new students will be used to provide classroom teachers with baseline data about the strengths and weaknesses of each child assessed. Using the assessment results, teachers will be able to adapt their teaching and quickly place students into small groups for targeted instruction. The content of assessments for this purpose are closely tied to the classroom curriculum.
Protocol for assessing new students upon enrollment:
1. The front office staff member responsible for enrolling the new student will send an email with student name, grade, and teacher to the secondary test coordinator.
2. Within 1 week of entry, the student will be assessed using the following based on their grade level:
Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KK)
Sight Word Lists (KK-2nd)
IDI (2nd Semester KK-2nd) and any student scoring red on STAR Reading in grades 3-5
MAP Reading Fluency (PK - 5th)
MAP Growth (Reading/Math) (K - 5th)
3. It is the responsibility of the classroom teacher to review assessment results and the student’s permanent record folder to determine the need for special programs and targeted support.
