The school building is our home for much of the year. A school building or a classroom should be clean comfortable. There are some basic rules to keep in mind as we occupy this building for another year. Treat the building as you would your own home.
1. Keep your rooms neat and tidy (this includes tables, counters, floors, computer desks, closets, storage rooms, etc). There is something distinctly displeasing about a junky and messy schoolroom. If things get out of control, have a cleanup time set aside at the end of the week.
2. Do not put tape on the carpets. When the tape is removed, the sticky residue attracts dirt that stains the carpets.
3. DESKTOP MUST BE KEPT FREE FROM WRITING AND STICKERS.
Educate your students about the care of public property. Students who do deface school property MUST clean up what they have defaced. They need to learn this lesson, and it is often an effective punishment.
4. Do not use tape - scotch or masking - on walls, doors, and cabinets in your room. It pulls off paint and leaves a sticky residue. Avoid using sticky tools of any kind other than beeswax clips and tacky putty. These can be applied and removed without damaging the walls or leaving residue if used carefully.
5. Do not staple into doors, walls, or chalkboard. Staples should be used on soft surfaces such as bulletin boards.
6. Do not paint anything in your classroom other than your personal property without approval from the principal. This rule covers two reasons: (1) Some paints do not match; (2) Paint will not adhere to some surfaces.
7. Because of carpet stains, we will not be allowing drinks with red or orange dye in the carpeted areas. Those kinds of drinks must be served in the cafeteria.
8. Avoid painting in the rooms. Students may paint small projects on the tiled areas in some rooms. All other painting projects should be completed outside.
9. The last five minutes of each day is an excellent time to have the students pick up paper, straighten their desks, and prepare for the next day. Custodians have a difficult time cleaning a cluttered room. Have students police the floors and put furniture back in place at the end of each day. Student should place their chairs on tops of student desks before custodians vacuum each day. Usually this can be done during the last five minutes as well.
10. Classroom teachers are asked to place sealed trash bags in hallways at the end of the school day.
11. Desk chairs should be stacked at the end of the day to allow for easy cleaning of floors by custodians.
12. Large pieces of rubbish should be removed from the floor before staff leaves for the day.
13. If your room is not cleaned properly and regularly, please communicate that to the Assistant Principal in writing (email works).
It is important for all staff and students to conserve energy at all times (See Appendix 25). Please adhere to the following requests:
1. Lock and check doors when leaving at the end of the day.
2. Turn off lights when a space is not in use.
3. During the heating season: Close blinds when departing at the end of the day, Open blinds each morning.
4. Heating and cooling problems should be reported immediately to the assistant principal.
5. Needed repairs should be reported at regular intervals to the day custodian or submitted to facilities using the AIM Portal :

Long Breaks (Winter / Summer)

2. Anything with an electrical cord unplugged, or surge protector/power strip switched OFF except computers, Promethean Boards and Projectors, networked printers/copiers, LCD TV's and faxes.
3. All refrigerators cleaned out, defrosted & unplugged
4. All lights off and curtains/blinds & doors closed.
Short Breaks (Weekends / Spring / Thanksgiving)
1. Follow Thermostat rule above #1
2. Follow electrical rule above #2
3. Follow lights rule above #4
*Attention to Neatness and Orderliness – Classrooms should be well organized, colorful, neatly arranged places for learning. Most of what should be visible in the classrooms should be tasteful displays of student work. Desks should be arranged for optimal learning opportunities. The room should be free of clutter and outdated materials. Students cannot learn in a cluttered, unattractive, learning environment.
Should you have a need for repair in your classroom. Please use the online AIM system:
