Kangaroo Island Connection

There is no evidence that Willie was ever living on Kangaroo Island, however his parents were living in Kingscote at the time of his father's death 12 Feb 1916. W.N. Smith was appointed Mounted Constable in Kingscote in November 1915.

His mother, newly widowed, removed to the mainland 9 March 1916 according to a newspaper article "Mrs W. N. Smith, accompanied by Pte and Miss Smith, left Kingscote on Thursday for Adelaide." Willie would have been 26 at that time. A year later he was married at Mount Pleasant where he raised a family.
