Island Volunteers.PTE. W. O. BAUMANN.

Pte. W. O. Baumann, of Kingscote, who enlisted recently in the remount unit, arrived on Saturday evening to say farewell to friends prior to leaving for the front. Pte. Baumann has lived at Kingscote for several years, and during that time made many friends who were pleased to see him and wish him success before he left to play bis part in the world wide war. Though a committee has been formed to arrange farewells for our boys who have enlisted, it was by Pte. Baumann's request that nothing was done in this respeot on Saturday evening. On Monday morning, however, before the departure of the Karatta, Cr. Daw on behalf of the committee, presented Pte. Baumann with a pocket-book, and in a few well-chosen words complimented him on his patriotism and wished him God-speed and a safe return when the war was over. His remarks were supported by Cr. Turner. Pte. Baumann feelingly responded, thanking the committee for their gift, which be assured them would be always treasured, and also for the kind way in which speakers had re-ferred to him.
