Previous to the departure of the Karatta on Monday members of the Kingscote Farewell Committee met in the saloon to bid farewell to Pte. A. Stanley, who was visiting friends in the district prior to leaving for the front. The Chairman of the Committee (Mr J. Turner) presided, and with Crs. Cook and Strawbridge and Mr W. Burgess, referred in eulogistic terms of Pte. Stanley. During his stay on the Island he had proved a good lad and was well spoken of by all who had employed him. If he served his country as well as he had his employers he would do well. Speakers wished him good luck and god-speed and trusted he would soon return. The presentation of a small mem ento from the Committee was made by Mr Turner. Pte. Stanley in responding feelingly expressed his thanks for the honor done him and the presentation.
