An A Petherick was a volunteer from Muston in November 1917.

Anthea Taylor comments:

I am more inclined to think that the Memorial had (yet another) typo and it should in fact refer to Private Ormonde (i.e. ‘O’ not ‘A’) Leslie Petherick. He was born in Collingwood, Vic but his Uncle was Vernon Gordon Petherick, MP who had a bookstore in Adelaide and was a fairly big name in Adelaide at the time. Ormonde’s older brother came to Adelaide from Melbourne to set up with his Uncle and it appears that Ormonde followed him a few years later. The only tenuous link to KI I can find for him is that he was a sales rep for Bagshaw & Sons, a large agricultural supply company that had links with KI. I have no evidence that Ormonde was stationed on KI, simply that he may have done regular trips over there and the locals got to know him. Bagshaw & Sons certainly thought highly of him as they put an article in the paper after his death. He was KIA in France, having spent some time in Egypt before that. If anyone has any further information that could resolve this issue, please contact the Webmaster.
